REVENUES: 1885 lengthy 'Assignment' of Property on vellum with superb colourless embossing of 'ONE/POUND' on Prussian blue paper
cut-square with wide margins affixed & secured by a foil 'staple', behind it an imperf 2nd Type Cypher Label affixed across the staple (see Peck & Smith at page 35), executed by "TWBuckland" at Sydney & later by "Daniel Cooper" in London where a
quarto letterhead was bound to the face notarising the latter's signature, with the duty paid on the face by fiscal usage of British Lilacs & Greens 1/- tied by the notary's blue seal, on the reverse is the 1886 receipt of the document at the NSW
Registrar-General's Office, minor soiling but overall very fine. In 1856, at the age of only 35, Sir Daniel Cooper was appointed the first Speaker of the new NSW Legislative Assembly. By the time he returned to the UK in 1861 he had amassed huge
property interests in the Colony & these are recorded in painful detail in this document. He became one of the most prominent of the early philatelists and, in 1869, was elected the first President of the Philatelic Society of London. When his
impressive collection was sold in 1878 for £3000, it was the first four-figure result for any stamp collection. (Image1) (Image2)
