1907 & 1908 unpaid local PPC and underpaid British ½d Postal Card (creasing) with rare frankings of 1907 Crown/Double-Lined A
Postage Dues 2d or 1d ACSC D58 & 57 (SG D55 & 54) both tied by pencil cancellations, Cat $800 & $300 respectively on cover but stated to be the only recorded examples of any stamps from this issue on cover. The first item is Ex Hugh Wynn: illustrated
in "The 1907 Emergency Printings of NSW Postage Stamps" at page 80. Both Ex Larry Birke: sold at our auction of 2.8.2013 for $660.

sit his University of Sydney entrance exams with KGV ½d green & 1d red tied by 'BATHURST/NSW' cds, unusually routed via France where censored with 'CONTROLE POSTAL MILITAIRE' resealing labels affixed on three sides tied by 'OUVERT/15/...' oval
cachets, minor transmission marks & small-part censor label removed on opening. The rate was 2½d foreign letter. Denmark remained neutral throughout WWI; mail from Australia was more commonly forwarded via Great Britain or Germany. (Image1) (Image2)

'TRANSMISSION AND/DELIVERY PROHIBITED' cachet in rosine, 'DEADLETTEROFFICE/MY28/17/TASMANIA' (no spaces) backstamp & endorsed on the face "Returned through/Dead Letter office/with 5/- Postal Note/.../1.6.17", minor defects. For many years, the Post
Office banned the delivery of mail to sweepstakes operators. Virtually all such mail is addressed to agents, this item being as blatant as it gets.

with KGV Heads 2d brown Die I Single Watermark solo franking (ACSC Cat $400) tied by 'OATLANDS/TAS' cds, minor edge faults & a light fold clear of the stamp & markings, a few marks on the reverse. The rate was double 1d per 2oz Commercial Papers. A
scarce stamp on cover: by the time they were issued, the letter rate had decreased to 1½d per 1oz; when it increased to 2d in 1930 these were quickly replaced by the 2d red Die III. (Image1) (Image2)
