1908-09 Completed Design High Values with Stroke 10/- dull green with the Watermark Inverted (as always) ACSC D64 (SG D61),
well-centred, light but very fine large-part strike of the distinctive 'P[ARCELS BRANCH]/28.JU.10/GPO SYDNEY' cds in violet, Cat $45,000 (£26,000). These new designs were issued late-1908/early-1909 to avoid confusion with the Pence values with
similar numerals, and were superceded by the bi-coloured Victorian Designs from July 1909. The ACSC (2020) notes that this value was issued only in Sydney, that no examples were cancelled-to-order for presentation purposes or collectors' sets, that
usage was "extremely limited", and states "At present, two examples of each of the 2/-, 10/- and 20/- stamps, all cancelled with the Parcels Branch Sydney datestamp in violet are recorded". We are unsure whether this is one of the recorded examples
of the 10/-. An example with a smaller part-strike sold at our auction of 14.4.2005 for $34,500 (Sale 115 Lot 93). (Image1)
