1d salmon eosin G27 Smooth Paper Comb Perf ACSC 71S (SG 21c shade variant), quite well-centred, largely very fine Pelaw Main (NSW)
1917 cds cancel, light aging, Cat $1800. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2012) states "rare shade"; photocopy of Michael Drury Certificate (1998) as "pale yellow salmon eosin" noting that the stamp will be referred to as "Pelaw Main No.2". This and the
next two Lots are possibly the most distinctive shades in one of the most important British Empire issues, but are currently not listed by Gibbons. Should this change in future, we expect their true scarcity will be even more greatly appreciated. Ex

1d salmon eosin G27 Smooth Paper Comb Perf ACSC 71S (SG 21c shade variant) vertical pair tied to small piece by very fine 'WILLIAM
STREET/1DE17/ =NSW=' cds, Cat $3600+ for singles. A beautiful & extremely scarce multiple. Technically, this is a very interesting piece: the eosin shades are usually obvious only after exposure to water, with mint examples having a very different
dull appearance (the same being true of stamps on-piece or cover), however, in this instance, there must have been a higher-than-usual concentration of eosin in the printing ink, producing this vibrant deep shade. Michael Drury Certificate (2000)
records these as "Sydney No 21 & 22". Ex Martin Frischauf from the Italian Hoard: sold for €1238, and again at our auction of 20.7.2022 for $4012 (Sale 248 Lot 278). Ex Graeme Stephensen. (Image1) (Image2)
