1901 (June) large chromolithographed formal invitation to the Laying of the Foundation Stone for the New Railway Offices at
Wellington on thin art board (360x280mm) with imprints 'WSD Schmidt Des' at lower-left & 'Litho by the Brett Printing Co Ltd Auckland' at lower-right, creased in the upper-right margin clear of the design. A beautiful item. To put this event in
perspective, the Duke of York (later King George V) visited Melbourne to open the first Federal Parliament, then went to New Zealand to wield a trowel. (Image1)

1940 (Sept 17) airmail to Scotland "per Clipper Frisco" also endorsed "Posted Kotuku 16th Sept" with 'LOOSE LETTER' double-boxed
handstamp in green at left (partly obscured by the censor label) and Centennial 3d & 6d plus Arms 6/- pink tied by 'OTIRA' cds, light central fold, a few edge faults & minor aging marks. Kotuku is located about 50km N of Otira, north of the Taramakau
River and Lake Brunner. It appears that the item was carried outside the regular mails to Otira, possibly by boat across the river/lake. The remoteness of Kotuku may explain payment of the old higher 'via Hong Kong' rate rather than the 4/- per ½oz
rate that was introduced with the commencement of the direct FAM-19 service in July 1940. (Image1) (Image2)

also censored in transit through Germany, each with a couple of minor blemishes.
