1585 nh image1947-52 KGVI Definitives Multiple NZ Star Watermark Perf 14x13½ 6d as SG 683 but in bright blue, block of 4, unmounted. Rare & not previously seen by us. Murray Payne Certificate (2009) states "unissued ... is genuine". The status of this block is unclear: one theory is that it stems from a Bradbury Wilkinson war-time printing that was not sent to New Zealand. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)

1589 nh image1996 Health (Road Safety) Teddy Bear M/S as SG MS2002 but from the original printing with the Teddy Bear & Baby Facing Forwards and 'SC 439' at upper-left, unmounted. See Gibbons' footnote. Unlisted by Campbell Paterson. The design caused an outcry because the baby should have been facing the rear of the car to comply with safety regulations. The stamps & M/Ss were immediately withdrawn & re-designed. However, some of the the original M/Ss had been distributed by the printers, Enschedé in the Netherlands, to their staff. A similar item sold at our auction of 24.11.2018 for $3594. (Image1) (Image2)

1594 PSE image1915 (July 23) usage of KGV Lettercard 1d red/blue from on board WWI troopship to Egypt with superb complete strike of 'N.Z. MILITARY POST OFFICE/EXPEDITIONARY FORCE/ FIFTH REINFORCEMENTS' boxed datestamp in violet and lengthy message headed "Suez", a few light aging marks. Troopships 24 25 & 26 departed New Zealand between 13-15.6.1915 and were thought to have arrived at Suez in early August, but apparently arrived almost two weeks earlier. The message includes "... just going alongside the dock and in a couple of hours we will be on the train on our way to Zeitoun ... then go right to the Dardenalles [Gallipoli]. By the time this reaches you we will have been under fire. If you notice in the paper that a WJR Hill (?) receives the Victoria Cross for running away twill be me ... despite the very heavy casualty list  ... will give a good account of themselves". Fascinating content that underscores the lack of censorship. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)
