1373 D imageCHANGI POW CAMP: 1942-47 documents regarding Private Arthur George Heffer comprising 1) largely printed advice that he was "missing" as at 15.2.1942 (the date Singapore surrendered to the Japanese); 2) official advice he died on 14.10.1943 "of Avitaminosis" (= vitamin deficiency); 3) typed letter (carbon-copy) from his platoon officer advising he had assisted with Heffer's burial, faults; and 4) largely roneo'd advice that he had been exhumed & re-buried in "Kanchanaburi Military Cemetary Siam". 1380 c imageCHANGI PRISON: 1942 (May 11) airmail cover at 1/3d rate from 'BRISTOL' to "Steward/SS Empress of Asia/co GPO/London" with huge 'PRISONER OF WAR POST/...' redirection cachet for the ship's crew across the reverse, reposted from London 20OC/1942, endorsed "K2/37" in red-pencil. With a PPC of 'Empress of Asia', which was sunk in Singapore Harbour on 5.2.1942.
