bit knocked-about & stained but presentable. A rare & extraordinary origin-destination item. The addressee was in the first group of POWs sent from Singapore, to Saigon on 4.4.1942 where they were employed in preliminary works in association with the

HAKODATE CAMP: 1945 (Apr 10) British 1½d red-brown POW Airmail Postal Card from Manchester with British censor in rosine, faint
Japanese censor in violet & han of Sotoyama in scarlet. In April 1945, the airmail rate was reduced to 1½d, so this is a very early (possibly First Day) usage. Because there were still many 3d cards to be utilised, used examples of the 1½d card are

in rosine but no Japanese markings. Apparently delivered, probably after Japan surrendered, bumped corners & minor spots. The POW's sister states "Hope you have heard the news" but doesn't say what the news is! (presumably the imminent surrender of
