1041 c image1958 (Oct 4) social surface cover from an island resident to Western Australia with Singapore Ships 12c tied by the 29mm 'CHRISTMAS ISLAND' cds, very minor blemishes. From 1.10.1958, the island became an External Territory of Australia. However, the new stamps & datestamps were not available until 15.10.1958. For the intervening two weeks, Singapore continued to operate the island post office. Social or commercial covers from this period when a 'foreign' administration operated an Australian post office are rare. (Image1) (Image2)

Australian currency was introduced in -.3.1968 but the new Fish stamps were not available until 6.5.1968. In the interim period, the old currency stamps remained valid. Usage in this period is rare. 1059 PSE image1907 (May 13) use of Western Australia 1d Postal Card with Two-Line Instructions, to Scotland with Perth WA machine cancel of the same date (?), redirected on arrival, light soiling. Brief messages were cabled from Cocos to Perth where they were transcribed onto Postal Cards for onforwarding. Most such cards are from the period 1907-11 and addressed to Malta. Any other usages are rare. This is one of the earliest such usages. Colin Riddell's similar card of 21.4.1907 sold for $2360. 1060 c image1908 (Dec 29) GB picture postcard to "JT Stavers/Eastern Ext[ension] Telegraph Co/Cocos Islands/ Singapore" with 'PENANG TO SINGAPORE' marine sorter cds on the face, minor blemishes. [In 1901, the Eastern Extension, Australasia & China Telegraph Co extended its submarine cable across the Indian Ocean via Rodrigues & Cocos. JT Stavers commenced duties on Cocos 23.12.1908, soon after the arrival of this card in Singapore] Colin Riddell's two similar cards of 12.11.1908 & 11.5.1909 (without the handstamp) sold for $1180 & $1415 respectively.
