1948 (early?) large parcel piece (270x190mm) airmail to Western Australia with Five Colour Franking of Kangaroo ½d orange, KGVI 3d
purple-brown, Aboriginal Art 2/- chocolate pair, Robes Thick Paper £1 & Thin Paper 5/- on Tinted Paper tied by poor GPO Melbourne cds, scarce red & black/white 'B RAAF MELBOURNE' R label, unfolded & remarkably fine for such an item.
We have dated this article on the basis that the 2/- was issued 16.2.1948 & the Thin Paper 5/- on c. 27.1.1948. The Thin Paper £1 was issued 4.4.1949. The rate was therefore domestic letter 2d per oz x44 (88d) + airmail supplement 3d per ½oz x87
(261d) = £1/9/1d (shortpaid 1d) + registration 3d + war tax ½d. An exceptional domestic rates item. (Image1)

1948 (Oct 4) airmail to French India with 1/- Lyrebird tied by Hobart slogan, boxed Indian-pattern '.../BUY SAVINGS

introduced on 13.10.1947, and we expect it applied also to the few remaining foreign settlements from that date. (Image1) (Image2)
