A rare cover not sent by ER Leigh-Parkin, from whom probably 95%+ of all Cocos mail of the time originated.

802 c image1950 advertising cover for T Hemsley & Co (Singapore) to "ER Leigh Parkin/Cable & Wireless Ltd/Cocos Islands/PO Box 146/Singapore" with Singapore 10c tied by machine cancel of 19JNE50 (date error for 1951), the reverse with 'COCOS IS/("28.8.51")/PER ("Frigate")', the last word crossed-out & "RAF Sunderland" inserted, very minor blemishes. Colin Riddell's similar cover, Lot 2436, sold at our auction of 3.3.2019 for $6890. Colin's list of 'Received Mails', published in our catalogue of 3.3.2019 at page 86, includes "26-8-51 Per RAF Sunderland from Singapore, brought the Governor of Singapore on a visit". [The Governor was Sir Franklin Gimson who was making a vice-regal visit. A small mail being held at Singapore was carried, despite being paid at the surface rate only]

803 c image1950 commercial cover from GB with KGVI 2½d, to "ER Leigh-Parkin/Cable & Wireless Ltd/Cocos Islands/PO Box 146/Singapore", superb 'ORION/Barrel' & boxed 'COCOS' cachets in violet, the latter with '5JAN51' handstamps added, vertical fold clear of the stamp & handstamps. [These are probably the two rarest markings of Cocos. Colin Riddell's superb Nov 1950 airmail cover with the same markings sold at our auction of 3.3.2019 for $3115]

805 c image1955 airmail cover between the Cable & Wireless stations on Cocos & Fiji with Singapore KGVI 5c strip of 3 & 20c pair tied by Malayan-pattern 'COCOS/19SEP55/ISLAND' cds, light horizontal crease well clear of the stamps. A very unusual destination from Cocos. Control was transferred to Australia on 23.11.1955. Ex Kim Dwyer. [NB: this was carried in the last despatch from Cocos during the Malaya-Period. All mail lodged after this date was held to be included in the inaugural Australian service on 23.11.1955]

806 c image1955 use of two self-addressed Arthur Bergen screen-printed covers with island ilustration in green with Singapore QEII 10c or 50c (endorsed "Airmail/Last Day Issue") tied by Malayan-pattern 'COCOS/2[0]NOV55/ISLAND' cds. Very scarce: Kim Dwyer paid $155 each. 20.11.1955 was the last day of post office operations. Control was transferred to Australia on 23.11.1955.  (2)

807 cPSE image1955 (Nov 23) inaugural airmail service 12pp display highlighting the schedule of rates that applied for the one day only! with several very scarce items including OHMS cover with 'POSTMASTER-GENERAL' imprint at 1/- rate, OHMS cover with 'DEPARTMENT OF AIR' imprint & blue/white 'COCOS ISLAND' R label No 0019, Qantas covers to New Zealand at 8d (yes, 4d less than to Australia!) and Japan at 2/- rate, Arthur Bergen self-addressed cover with screen-printed illustration & caption 'COCOS ISLAND', cover to Tasmania and uprated aerogramme to WA with the flight cachet in red (21 covers recorded) or in black (only 10 covers recorded), fine to superb. Ex Kim Dwyer.  (19 + 2 enclosures) (Image1)

810 PSE image1970 usage of Liang Bros (Singapore) private aerogramme with printed letterhead & address of Clunies-Ross Estate/Keeling-Cocos Islands on the reverse, to California with 1969 10c Bird tied by #3 cds. A very scarce item. The typed letter advises the price of a set of the local plastic currency is US$17 + US$1 postage, signed "J Dixon" who was the Estate manager. 812 c imagePOSTAL HISTORY: 1961 (May 11) commercial airmail cover with British Phosphate Commissioners imprint on the flap scored-through, to Switzerland with very scarce solo franking of 2/6d Buada Lagoon (3d convenience overpayment). At the time, the rate to Latin America & the West Indies, no example of which we have seen, was 2/6d. There was no 1/3d rate so this is the only other way to acquire a non-philatelic 2/6d solo franking on a letter.

816 # image1914-15 High Values with 3½-4mm Spacing  '2s.' on 2mk blue SG 13, well centred, regummed, Cat £3500, for mounted mint. BPA Certificate (1973) "unused no gum". It looks like the regummer crudely amended this to "unused also gum". Nice try, but no cigar. Still it remains a very attractive example of this scarce stamp.
