DOCUMENTS & EPHEMERA: 1901 circa silk 'Stevengraph' inscribed 'FOR THE FLAG' recessed in card mount inscribed 'Major-General Baden
Powell', the fabric in excellent condition, foxing on the card; and a second similar example with the same portrait but inscribed 'HERO OF MAFEKING', aged & removed from its card mount; different military scenes at the base.
Stevengraphs, named after their inventor Thomas Stevens, were pictures woven in silk. By the time of the Boer War, more than 1000 designs had been produced. See also Lot 3039.
