1457 D image1852-56 Queen-on-Throne Campbell & Fergusson Printings Bond to the Queen dated 19 May 1854 being the contract signed by James Stirling Campbell and James Fergusson and two other parties "to print and gum from plates now in the possession of the Postmaster General of the Colony of Victoria certain postage stamps ... according to the specimens of such gumming in the said Schedule hereunto annexed" along with the piece of gummed paper (240x110mm approx) headed "Specimen of gumming" signed by Campbell & Fergusson and other parties, minor folds and the bond with a few small adhesion marks. Possibly the most significant document relating to the printing of stamps in the Colony still in private hands.  (2 items)

1458 G image1852-56 Queen-on-Throne Campbell & Co Printings 2d black SG 22a horizontal strip of 4 Stone 9 Pos [13-16], margins good to close, the right-hand units slightly cut-into at top, Geelong Bared Numeral '2' cancel, Cat £560+ for singles. Illustrated in Kellow & Shawley at p99, where the authors state that "it is presumed that these sheets represent proofs which were sent to the Post Office with the main stock". This is the largest known multiple.

Kellow & Shawley state that "stamps from Stone D are the scarcest of all the Campbell & Fergusson Printings, with the census indicating that these comprise only 10.8% of the total issue".

Illustrated in Kellow & Shawley at p104, where the authors state that "a single example is recorded". The card is much thicker than the similar variety known from Stone D; like that variety, this was possibly a proof subsequently used for postage. Ex Forster, Perry & Johnstone.

[Believed to be the finest of the three recorded examples, all of which were used at Sandhurst. Kellow rates this a "major rarity" & states at page 148 "This may be a true case of a sheet passing twice through the press..." as distinct from 'kiss print' varieties. SG 108ca & 110a are the only true Double Prints listed for Victoria]

1472 og image1867-81 Laureates V/Crown (W19) Watermark 1/- blue/light blue as SG 138 but with the Watermark Inverted & Reversed, large-part original gum with light overall aging, a few uneven perfs, Cat £275 for normal. Gibbons do not list inverted or reversed watermarks for the Australian States on the basis that many are 'normal'. However, in this issue they are 'abnormal', with only a couple of examples recorded. Ex Gary Diffen.
