1418 E image1892 two simple hand-drawn stamp-size designs in India ink for a 5d stamp, the first with QV Widow's Weeds portrait (apparently from a Canadian revenue stamp) in brown affixed, on separate pieces each with 'FINIS CORONAT OPUS' heading & affixed to a larger piece (190x131mm) endorsed "No 13", being the entrant number in the colony's Stamp Design Competition. ['Finis Coronat Opus' {= "the end crowns the work"} was the nom-de-plume of Melbourne artist Maximilian Tannenberg who worked for the printers Troedel & Co. He won the competition & was invited to submit a series of finished designs, three of which - all unadopted - sold at our previous auctions for an average of  $2635]

Unlisted by Gibbons. Absent from Gary Diffen's collection. Larger than Don Pearce's example with good even margins, believed then to be the only recorded example, that sold for $898.
