1299 c image1966 (Feb 18) registered with pre-decimal/decimal combination franking of 5d Christmas 1965 and Birds 20c Golden Whistler tied by 'FOOTSCRAY/VIC-AUST' cds with blue R label alongside, Melbourne transit & Shepparton (Vic) arrival backstamps, minor blemishes. The 5d converted to 4c to pay the Decimal letter rate plus 20c registration fee. Decimal stamps were introduced 14.2.1966: this is in the first week of usage.

Squad W'shops/AFPO 3/Vietnam" with Birds 5c Thornbill solo tied by 'WOY WOY/NSW-AUST', sent via Malaya with 'MALACCA/31DE66' cds and US 'ARMY & AIR FORCE POSTAL SERVICE/JAN 18/1967' machine (in red) transits and re-directed to "2 Comp ORD", received via the local civilian mail with 'QUAN-BU'U/3-2/1967/VIET-NAM' backstamp, minor blemishes. Remarkable routing, taking five weeks to arrive. [Mail to areas of conflict is usually scarcer than outwards mail. This item is enhanced by being paid at the Forces 5c rate, the free postage concession being introduced only from 1.10.1967]

The postage (plus fee) was paid by the recipient, but the sender needed to pay the 20c registration fee.

1304 c image1967 (July 3) airmail to London with 8c Coral Fish solo tied by Seven Hills (NSW) machine cancel, Sydney 'POSTAGE INSUFFICIENT/FOR AIR MAIL/SENT BY SURFACE' boxed handstamp in violet on face and airmail label crossed out, minor blemishes. The rates were 25c per ½oz Zone 5 airmail letter, or 4c for the first 1oz (plus 3c each additional 1oz) British Empire surface letter. Because 8c covered the surface rate, the item was not taxed.

1310 c image1968 (Jan 30) to Geelong with pre-decimal/decimal combination franking of QEII 5d blue and QEII 1c brown tied by Melbourne machine cancel. The 5d converted to 4c, the domestic letter rate at the time decimal currency was introduced on 14.2.1966. However, the domestic letter rate had increased to 5c on 1.10.1967, requiring the 1c to be added. Pre-decimal stamps remained valid for use until 14.2.1968.

1311 c image1968 (Aug 12) Forces in Vietnam home-made wrapper endorsed "[Audio] Letter Tape Only" registered airmail to Australia with 30c Waratah solo franking tied by 'AUST FPO/ 3 ' cds used at Vung Tau and boxed rubber 'R/AUST FPO 3' registration cachet in violet alongside, minor blemishes. The concessional Other Articles rate was 8c per 2oz (specifically including audio cassettes) + 20c registration fee. [A very scarce usage, albeit with 2c convenience overpayment. On 1.10.1968, the free mail privilege for personal correspondence - including audio cassettes - from & to Vietnam was introduced).

1312 c image1968 (Dec 9) airmail to UK endorsed "Forces Air Mail" with Flowers 6c Kangaroo Paw solo tied by 'WOOMERA/SA-AUST' cds and 'BRITISH DEFENCE FORCES MAIL' handstamp in red at lower-left, a few blemishes. The British Forces in Australia concessional airmail rate was available to UK addresses only (by comparsion, the civilian airmail letter rate to the UK was 30c per ½oz at this time). This was the only specific solo rate for this stamp.

1315 cF image1971 (Sept 15) Vogue Australia business reply envelope (front only) returned with Brisbane machine cancel, endorsed "70/$5.60" to pay for 70 articles with Navigators 50c $1 & $2 pair plus National Development 10c affixed tied by Sydney GPO cds, a couple of minor edge faults not affecting adhesives. The Business Reply Mail service required the provider of the envelopes to pay the letter rate plus a fee on receipt, in this case 6c letter rate plus 2c fee per article.
