624 c image1939 (Aug 2) Australian Bush Scene illustrated envelope airmail to England with KGV 5d brown vertical pair tied by Melbourne cds, minor edge faults from bulky contents & a few light aging marks. The Empire Air Mail Scheme rate was 5d per ½oz. [Note that this was not the same as the domestic airmail rate, which consisted of a letter rate of 2d per 1oz plus an airmail surcharge of 3d per ½oz. A domestic item weighing over ½oz up to 1oz was charged 2d + 3d x2 = 8d; an EAMS item was charged 5d x2 = 10d]
