531 F image4d ultramarine Plate 1 with Temple Flaw [Pos 1L40] ACSC 112(1)g, superb 'YORKETOWN/FE 23 24/STH AUST' cds (unusual dateline configuration) clear of the variety, Cat $1500. A very attractive example of this scarce variety: the ACSC states that "... approximately 50 used examples have been reported". [The ACSC states "Dates on used stamps range from January to September 1923" and "The variety increases in size through the printing". The flaw is more prominent than on the previous two lots, which does suggest a late usage. However, the date may be an error for February 1923]

537 c imagePUNCTURED 'OS': KGV 4d dull ultramarine ACSC 113ba with White Flaw at Top of Emu's Leg [Pos 3L46] tied by Melbourne '19SE24' cds largely clear of the variety, to small linen-backed envelope registered to "Butter Factory/Yarram, Vic" with red/white 'Bulk Regn Melb.' R label alongside, 'OHMS', 'HANDLE CAREFULLY' & 'Officer in Charge, Base Records/VICTORIA BARRACKS, MELBOURNE' handstamps, a few mostly minor edge faults & aging marks. The envelope probably contained a military service medal: the rate was 1d per 2oz merchandise, patterns & samples plus 3d registration fee. A rare franking. The ACSC states that "Punctured OS stamps from the Harrison Plates were unknown for many years, but in 1986 a plated used example dated 15 November 1924 was found. There is no reason to doubt the authenticity of this item, and the archival records support the production of OS punctures on the Harrison Plate printing". Punctured 'OS' used stamps are priced at $750; no prices are given for 'used on cover'.
