445 F image1½d red with unlisted variety Wedge Flaw from Left Frame through Kangaroo & 'AL of 'HALFPENNY' to Base with Doubling of the Lower Left Frame, small-part 'NUMURKAH/ -NO24/VIC' cds largely clear of the variety, unlisted in the ACSC. This was most likely caused by a foreign object below the paper raising the print surface at the lower-left corner & resulting in the doubling effect, but we are open to entertaining other possibilities. Most likely a transient flaw, but stiking nonetheless.

This and Lots 433 & 434 above must be a later state again, as the crack is significantly more extensive than that in green: see also Lots 427-428.

The catalogue value has been reduced from $1000 when originally listed in 2000, but footnote 2 still states (as it did in 2000) that "The N over A setting of the Plate 3 imprint was not reported until 2000 ... one mint strip of 4 and one CTO block of 4 are recorded". An imprint block of 4 sold at our auction of 16.8.2008 for $2300.

456 og image1½d red Plate 4 Type B Re-Entry with Duplicated Shading Lines behind Kangaroo [Pos 4L47] and Type B Re-Entry with Duplicated Shading Lines above Right Wattles [Pos 4L53] in Type A/B Pairs ACSC 91(4)fb & 91(4)hb being the left-hand units in a block of 4, lightly mounted, Cat $2250+ for two pairs. A rare multiple. A similar block of 4 sold in our auction of 19.5.2018 for $679. Only three Type B re-entries were made, all on Plate 4 and all with a characteristic Long Middle Stroke on the Second 'E' of 'HALFPENCE' and secondary flaws. The ACSC states that "These re-entries were made in May 1928 and so had a very short life in Perf 14" (our emphasis).  The lower Type B re-entry [Pos 4L53] was found to be unsatisfactory and was re-entered a second time as a Type A. Hence, it is by far the scarcest of the three Type B re-entries.

The ACSC explains (p172) the Type B re-entries and [Pos 4L53] being re-entered a second time as Type A, but these later developments - evident in this positional piece - are not catalogued separately.
