1942 (Aug 13) to Townsville with 2½d & 3d tied by 'CAIRNS' machine cancel, censored on arrival with Townsville '1/2 PASSED BY CENSOR' resealing tape (Little Type L1/2-3) unusually tied by 'AUSTRALIAN/MILITARY
FORCES/PASSED BY CENSOR/3053' boxed h/s in violet, a couple of small stains on the reverse. The Japanese repeatedly bombed Townsville in July 1942, leading to the evacuation of many civilians and the transfer of control to the Australian Army,
presumably also impacting the civilian censorship office. [We know of only one other such usage, on an airmail cover of 31.7.1942 from Townsville to the UK]
