Two original legal bond documents for the production of the 1854 1d & 3d issue by Campbell & Fergusson (S.G. #26-31d); first the handwritten schedule…"We hereby engage to prepare for the Postmaster General, four millions (4,000,000) penny and two millions (2,000,000) three penny postage stamps to be lithographed from plates now in the possession of the Postmaster General. We agree to provide paper, printing and gumming (specimen of the latter attached hereto)…", schedule and the sample of gummed stamp paper signed by Campbell, Fergusson and others (witnesses) sign before and after gumming, second the pre-printed bond contract for the 1854 Campbell & Fergusson printing; schedule with original bond folio, Very Fine.

A UNIQUE PAIR OF ORIGINAL SIGNED DOCUMENTS FOR 1854 1D & 3D CAMPBELL & FERGUSSON ISSUE.

The postal rate increase of May 1854 and the plan for compulsory prepayment by adhesives effective January 1855, would greatly increase the demand for stamps. J.S. Campbell & Co. tendered for the task of producing the 1854 1d & 3d stamps. Their renamed company, Messrs. Campbell & Fergusson, was awarded the contract on June 2, 1854.
