AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 1¢ GREEN BALTIMORE CARRIER ISSUE - CONSIDERED TO THE FINEST KNOWN OF THREE EXAMPLES ON COVER TIED BY A POSTMARK.

The 1¢ Green on White carrier stamp is the rarest of the Baltimore semi-official carrier stamps. Many of the examples on cover are uncanceled or canceled only by manuscript or pencil.

THERE ARE ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES TIED ON COVER - THIS BEING THE FINEST KNOWN TIED EXAMPLE OF THE RARE BLOOD'S FIRST STRIDING MESSENGER ISSUE WITH MANUSCRIPT CONTROL MARK.

The Striding Messenger stamp is the world's first pictorial postage stamp, and it was issued by the Philadelphia Despatch Post, later operated by D. O. Blood & Co. The stamp shows an oversized courier striding across the city with a mailbag labeled "City Despatch Post," symbolically emphasizing the service's speed and efficiency - a marketing message aimed at competing with the official postal system.

The Mac & Co.'s Despatch is believed to have provided service that ran between Fallsington and Morrisville. The original enclosure (which has gone missing) affirmed a date of 1854 and mentioned at the end of the letter."We have no N. York line that stops nearer to us than Morrisville".
