ONE OF TWO KNOWN EARLEY'S SAN FRANCISCO LETTER EXPRESS USAGES WITH THE "630 MONTGOMERY" ADDRESS - ONE OF THE GREAT RARITIES OF WESTERN USAGES.

This short-lived local letter express is believed to have been run in 1861 and sold out to John C. Robinson in 1862. Only two examples of the "630 Montgomery" address imprint are known; this example and another as a corner card on locally addressed cover with the same "Paid" handstamp applied (Wiltsee collection). The other "507 Montgomery" imprint is in label form on a cover and is believed to be unique.
