On a beautiful Hawaiian flag illustrated patriotic cover addressed to Piqua, O., tied by "Honolulu, H.I., Nov 17, 1899" duplex, Honolulu post office rated this as a double-weight cover, applying faint purple "T 25, centimes" handstamp just visible beneath the lowest of the five U.S. 1895, 2¢ Postage Dues (J39) applied in San Francisco, all struck with blue crayon, black "U.S Charge to Collect 10 cents" handstamp at left indicating double the deficient postage; Hawaiian stamp with some perf toning, otherwise Very Fine, a sensational cover with great eye-appeal.

Lesueur) in Jefferson City, Missouri, with 2-line corner card "On Hawaiian Government Service., Department of Foreign Affairs.", stamp cancelled with partial Honolulu barred-oval duplex dated Jul. 20, 1899; reverse with San Francisco machine cancel (Mahoney 720) dated Jul. 28, 1899 and Jefferson City receiver circular postmark dated Aug. 1., Very Fine, a rare consular mail usage after the annexation of Hawaii and shortly before becoming a U.S. territory.
Scott No. O2; Estimate $750 - 1,000.

A similar cover from the Fitzpatrick collection (Rumsey sale 22, lot 2137) posted on the same date, sent to the Secretary of state of New Hampshire, realized $850. Most covers with the 5¢ official stamp are Soldier Mail sent by troops passing through Hawaii during the Spanish-American war. Official consular (Foreign Department) mail usages are far scarcer.
