Blue printed circular 1858 (Dec. 25) New Orleans La. to Cromford, Rhenish Prussia, tied by light New Orleans cds, carried by Havre Line Fulton from New York Jan. 8th to Southampton but could not continue, sent on another vessel to Havre, ultramarine Havre (1.22) entry octagon datestamp, red "Aus Frankreich, Per Aachen" (1.24) transit backstamp and blue manuscript. "1 ¾" sgr due rating (France 1¼ sgr, Thurn & Taxis ½ sgr); pair affected from edge placement and some perf toning, a Very Fine use.

Since the 1857 US-France Convention had no provision for printed matter, postage due was based upon conventions between the European states. US Postage was 2¢ per circular.
