Estimate; $200 - 300.

Starting January 1, 1863, Ecuadorian postage was required to be paid on all Pacific Coast mail. Enforcement was initially lax and the British P.O. continued to accept mail. Since the British rate was less, the public continued to favor this service. This unusual cover bearing the "Guayaquil, Paid" date stamps and the Guayaquil A date stamp on reverse, did not pass through the Ecuadorian Postal System, as decreed. This illicit service lasted until 1866.
