A remarkable collection of couple hundred cover or so written-up on pages with much historical info throughout; starting with a 1790 folded letter from St. Christopher to Madeira regarding an excellent order of wine, 1800 Philadelphia merchant letter, 1827 N.Y. to Bordeaux folded letter (Bordeaux Wine Trade), 1831 folded letter with fancy Exeter, N.H. postmark with letter mentioning whiskey and wine, many other Trans-Atlantic trade letters, 1850's with stamped usages with various circulars, cameo & illustrated ad cover, 1860's including S.F. illustrated shaded ad entire with Wells, Fargo & Co. date stamp as well as other later express items, range of California postmark including wine-related names, later commercial cover with many illustrated ad corner cards, some enclosures and additional ephemera, prelude collection includes early illustrated intemperance cover and other illustrated, interesting 1899 registered cover to Germany with additional battleship revenues, etc; a fascinating collection and certainly wonderful basis for continuation.
