901     1320 imageWeekly Packet St. Nicholas (Mississippi & Red Rivers). Complete and well struck fancy multi-lined shield type handstamp on 1864-65 3¢ entire to New Orleans, part of flap missing & small sealed tear at top, also included is 1868 printed freight bill, Very Fine, a superb strike.
Milgram No. 1320; Estimate $150 - 200.

Built in 1864, this boat initially ran from Cincinnati to New Orleans until 1866, when it shifted to the New Orleans-Red River route. Captain John C. Dowty served as master during its operations on the Red River trade.

902     1322-23 imageStonewall, Jan 16, 1869 (Mississippi & Red Rivers). Two 1864-65 3¢ entires to New Orleans with packet handstamp, one in blue and one in black, also included is 1869 printed freight bill in red of the "St. Nicholas" overprinted in black "Stonewall", Very Fine.
Milgram No. 1322-23; Estimate $100 - 150.

The "Stonewall" was built in 1866 and ran St. Louis-Shreveport. The vessel burned on October 27, 1869 with 209
persons drowned and lost.

The "Success" constructed in 1867, operated from Cincinnati until March 1868 when Captain Thomas W. Rea purchased her and relocated to St. Louis for service on the Missouri River. Unfortunately, she was lost on the Arkansas River later that same year.
