Todd's Express. Handwritten agreement (three legal size pages with original ribbon tie, no cover) between bankers Page, Bacon & Co. of San Francisco and Charles A. Todd of Stockton, dated "April 22, 1852",
and setting forth the terms of acquisition and purchase by Todd of "…all the property, goods, chattels, fixtures, buildings, and other effects… being situate at Stockton, Sonora, Moquolumne Hill and San Jose… of the late firm
of Reynolds, Todd & Co." (with Alexander H. Todd, no relation), minor wrinkling of the paper from moisture, toning along one edge, F.-V.F., ex-Nathan. Estimate; $200 - 300.

Nathan's Franks of Western Expresses (pages 266-267). C. A. Todd's Express continued in business for nearly a year and a half before Todd sold out to Wells Fargo in September of 1853. (Image1)

Gold was discovered in the early 1860s in the Salmon River region of eastern
Washington Territory, an area which soon became part of the new Idaho Territory. At this time the Post Office carried the mail only as far as Portland, where the mail was transferred to Wells, Fargo for transmission to the mines; as it was unable to
deliver the cover it was readdressed back to Tomales. (Image1)
