Phoenix Auctions Sale - 105

Worldwide Public Auction - September 9, 2024

A very warm welcome to our William Fraser Sale (Phoenix Sale No 105), to be held in our Boardroom on Monday 9th September, commencing at 10.00am local time. While the William Fraser collection of large Specimen and CTO blocks is the prime focus for this sale it has been well supported by contributions from a select group of other collectors including Richard Peck’s Sydney Harbour Bridge Collection (highlighted with a pale blue wash). With new-to-the-market large blocks and rarely offered British Commonwealth, this auction offers a marvelous opportunity to acquire treasures to strengthen even the most advanced collection or exhibit.

The William Fraser collection features an amazing number of record-size blocks of Specimens & CTOs, including type C Specimen blocks of 12 of 3rd Wmk £1 grey Lot 4027 (only a block of 8 & a block of 4 previously recorded) & £2 Lot 4029 (only a block of 8 & 4 blocks of 4 previously recorded) and Sm Multi Wmk 10/- Lot 4052 (only a block of 4 & a strip of 3 previously recorded). The CTO blocks are just as outstanding with 6d to 5/- and perf ‘OS’ 6d to 10/- Roo blocks of 12 and KGV ½d to 1/4d both normal and ‘OS’ in blocks of 12. The early commemorative stamps are also represented in blocks of 12 or larger, some with imprints and plate numbers. Perhaps the most notable items in this last group are the 2d & 3d Kingsford Smith ‘OS’ plate 8 block of 12 Lot 4145 and imprint block of 12 Lot 4147 respectively.

  • The buyer's commission is just 19.25%.
  • Viewing is available 10am-4pm from Sunday 1st to Sunday 8th September (There is no Saturday viewing). Our address is Suite 2, Level 1, 441 Canterbury Rd, Surrey Hills, 3127. Call us if earlier viewing is required and call or email us if you need more information about a lot.
  • Auction 105 is a public auction and will be live on the net via our own auction systems. Just login as usual and then open the Live Bidding window, the link is active from 20 minutes before the start of the auction. Live Bidding gives you the ability to bid on each lot just as if you were in the room. We also have phone bidding available.
