A well balanced (but larger at left), 4 margin USA 1847 #2 10c Black neatly tied by an orange red grid on a folded letter, with a Mar 1 New York large CDS dispatch cancel and a Mar 3, 1850 Queenston U.C. double split ring
exchange office strike, and a Mar 4, 1850 Hamilton C.W. double ring receiver. From 1847 to July 1, 1851 there were no formal postal relations between Canada and the United States. This was sent through the exchange at Queenston, where 10c stamps paid
for over 300 miles from New York to the border, and marked 'Paid 10' to the line in the same handwriting as the address. Marked 4 1/2 pence due at the exchange office for 0 to 60 miles from the border to Hamilton. Manuscript dated Feb 28, 1850. To
see these addressed to Hamilton are far more uncommon than the usual ones seen to Montreal. Quite attractive. Scott- $1,700+(Image 1)
