Large ornate black "2" h/s (2d to pay), unframed Wellington transit cds JU 27 1855 on front. On back, m/s "P.O. Ahuriri 13/7/55" as receipt cancel. One of only 2 known covers with this m/s. William Hutt (whom the Hutt River was named after). 2) 1853 cover addressed to "River Hutt", prepaid "2"d (+ Wellington crowned circle in red). Hutt River was an early name for the settlement, hence Lower Hutt & Upper Hutt on lower & upper river. (Image)

279 C image1846 entire with framed "RUSSELL" receiving h/s. One of only 2 known. Sent to G Mair, Paihia, Bay of Islands from Wanganui. From Richard Taylor, letter dated OCT 12 1846. Gilbert Mair & Richard Taylor was a prominent botanist & missionary, respectively. "NEW ZEALAND NO 9 1846" cds & m/s "4" (note the other known example sold from the Woolfe colln in 2007, hammer £4000). Note: it was Richard Taylor who wrote the final copy of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi on the evening of 5 February 1840. (Image)
