 1916 Gratuitous Distribution Letter Card Type 2 with Poem on the
Reverse on grey stock and "Staff of the Commonwealth Stamp Printing Office.." in italics, used in May 1916 from Egypt to Sydney. The soldier complains about being "in the most God forsaken part of Egypt....the temperature
has been between 100 & 125 for a week.....If you hear that I am on the way back ring up Callan Park and order a cell for if I stay here much longer I will go mad..."; with large "TRAINING BATTALION POST FREE" cachet and
officer's signature.
Callan Park was a Lunatic Asylum opened in 1885 in the Sydney suburb of Lilyfield. (Image 1)

AUSTRALIS" (New South Wales) and "POSTAGE ONE SOVEREIGN" in ribbons at top and base The design measures 22 x 26mm on light card, in a framed border measuring 58 x 62mm with "Norman Selfe del."at lower left and
"Newman photo." at the right. Bends and paper discolouration do not affect the illustration. Norman Selfe was an engineer for the NSW Govt; some biographical information accompanies the piece. (Image 1)
