Küstrin is a town in Gorzów County, Lubusz Voivodeship in western Poland, close to the border with Germany. The town recovered from being burnt to the ground by retreating French forces in 1814, and became one of the most important railway hubs in the Kingdom of Prussia and later the German Empire. After WWII, the ruined town was placed under Polish administration by decision of the Potsdam Conference.

Tied by "New York, N.Y> Dec 14, 1943" machine cancel on Motorship Gripsholm imprint cover to Washington D.C., 7996" censor tape at left, opened at right; two-page letter with "Motorhip Gripsholm" imprint datelined "Nearing Rio de Janeiro, S.A. Nov. 12, 1943" written by V. Grace Clapper who was an interned American missionary to her brother J. Henry Clapper in Omak, Washington about her sickness on the voyage and her recovery from being held by the Japanese. She was held at the Wei Hsien internment camp in Shandong Province. A transcript of letter included, Very Fine, a rare American Missionary Japanese Internee use traveling home on the Repatriation Ship Gripsholm.
