1841, 1 d. red-brown on blue paper, Die 1, Small Crown watermark, used on underpaid entire letter to Down Patrick, bearing "DRUMCONDRA MR 18 1842” despatch and "MORE TO PAY” handstamps. The adhesive with small faults, nevertheless a fine and unusual usage.

1841, White Lines 2 d. blue on blued paper, horizontal pair, plate 4, Small Crown watermark, with good to enormous margins showing portions of two adjoining stamps at top, together with 1847/54 1 sh. green, Die 2, barely touched at left, shaved at right and with tiny cissor´s cut in margin well clear of the design, all in fresh colours, neatly tied by clear Enniskillen "214” barred-diamond cancel to large part lettersheet to Rome, Papal Sates, with matching dispatch cds on reverse (25 January 1853). Carried by French Packet via Calais, bearing red entry marking, two-line "VIA DI P(on)t. BEAUVOISIN” Franco-Sardinian exchange office marking, and "33” (Bajochi) credit to the Papal States. A fine and desirable Irish franking to a very scarce destination.

New York transit (3 May). Fine and rare double payment of postage on transatlantic mail.
1847/54, 1 sh. green, Die II, clear at foot, otherwise good to large margins, tiny scissor´s cut at top clear of the adhesive, tied by Dublin "186” spoon duplex cancel (April 5, 1856) to envelope to Melbourne, Victoria, bearing "2” (pence) due marking for onward inland conveyance to Melbourne, with red arrival datestamp on reverse (July, 25). Minor toning and some peripheral wear, still fine and scarce.

The envelope opened for display, the 10 d. shaved at left, otherwisewith clear to good margins all round, a couple of minor toned spots, nevertheless fine. A rare usage of the 10 pence in Ireland to a scarce destination.

CRIMEAN WAR: 1854/57, 1 d. red-brown on blued paper, Die I, perf 16, Small Crown watermark, horizontal strip of three (RA/RC), tied by fair strikes of Galway "232” barred-diamond cancel with matching despatch datestamp on reverse (15 September 1854), correctly paying the 3 d. soldier´s concessionary rate, to an envelope addressed to a soldier from the 55th Regiment "on service to the East”, endorsed via Marseille and bearing straightline"LETTERFRACK" on reverse; together with 1855 envelope bearing similar franking, paying the second weight-step concessionary rate, tied in transit in London by "47” barred-diamond, addressed via Marseilles to Bushmills (county Antrim). Despite some imperfections and minor faults to both covers, a very scarce Crimean War duo illustrating both outgoing and incoming Irish soldier´s mail.

1854/57, 1 d. red-brown on blued paper, Die I, perf 16, Small Crown watermark, horizontal strip of four (arranged in an "L” shape) and three singles, tied by indistinct barred numeral cancel, paying the correct soldier´s concession rate of 6 d. (instead of 1 shilling per 1 oz.) to envelope to Cape of Good Hope, bearing "CASTLEMORE” despatch and "NEWRY” handstamps (10 November 1854). The envelope with two creases well clear of the adhesives and some toning, still fine. Together with 1869 envelope bearing 1867/80 6 d. lilac, Spray of Rose watermark, tied by Derry "172” duplex cancel (7 January 69) to another soldier´s concession rate envelope, with "CAPE PACKET DEVONPORT JA 9 69" on reverse (some imperfections). A rare and exceptional Irish covers duo to this most unusal destination, including a very early usage of the line-engraved issues to the Cape of Good Hope.
1854/57, 2d. blue, plate 5, perf. 14, Large Crown watermark, a horizontal strip of four in fresh colours, neatly tied by Dublin "186” spoon duplex cancellation to an entire letter to Kingston, Canada, carried by British Packet via the steamer "Atlantic” and bearing red "1” (penny) due marking for onward conveyance from New York to Kingston. The left-hand 2 d. with a short perf, the left pair with a light horizontal crease, minor scissor´s cut at top, still fine. A lovely cover.

1857, No Corner Letters 6 d. lilac and 1 sh. green (wing margin), tied by clear Dublin "186” barred-diamond cancel to registered envelope to Lancaster, USA, carried by British Packet on the Cunard Line steamer Asia, bearing adjacent unframed circular red "DUBLIN REGISTERED W(indow) .O(ffice) MR 28 62” despatch handstamp with matching Crown Registered marking, and red "NEW YORK BR. PKT. PAID 36” handstamp applied upon arrival and struck over the franking. Red credit "5/6 11” (cents), 5 cents from the ordinary rate and half of the 6 d. registration fee (3 d. = 6 cents). Very fine and of great appeal, with the exceptional combination of the rare Dublin Window Office postmark and Irish registration on mail to the United States.

Additional 1 sh. 4 d. franking comprising 1855/57 6 d. lilac (2) and 1856/58 1d. rose-red, Large Crown watermark on white paper (two horizontal pairs), tied by barred square cancel and "H & K PACT AU 19 1852” datestamp, with transit and arrival Freiburg (August 22). The 2 d. and 6d. with minor faults, the cover showing some transportation traces and light toning, still fine. The Holyhead & Kingston Pact operated a direct maritime service between Dublin and Great Britain. A most unusual three-issue franking to this scarce destination.
