296 cover 101 image1908 (September 17), four-ounce registered U.P.U. cover to Austria, franked with single 2c carmine, 7c olive green and 10c purple Tercentenary, tied by oval R registration handstamps, with St. Thomas split-ring despatch (17 Sep), from the Canadian Botanical Exchange Bureau to Vienna, Austria, the reverse with London, Ontario (17 Sep) and London, England (26 Sep) transit markings; some toning at right, nevertheless an exceedingly scarce combination of rate and destination with considerable visual appeal.

Effective July 27, 1908, the U.P.U. rate for each additional ounce beyond the first was reduced from 5c to 3c, while the first ounce remained 5c. This four-ounce registered letter therefore required 14c postage plus the 5c registration fee, correctly paid by the 19c Tercentenary franking. (Image 1) (Image 2)

Tools & Machinery parcel tag franked on reverse with single 10c and 2c carmine pair Tercentenary, the 10c tied by oval Registration handstamps and the 2c pair by Strathroy c.d.s. receiver (15 Oct), paying the nine-times 1c-per-ounce fourth-class parcel rate plus 5c registration fee, usual faults from handling in transit, as expected for parcel tags, quite scarce as these were rarely preserved, an important Tercentenary item, believed to be one of only seven parcel tags bearing stamps of this issue extant, and one of only three registered examples, the others having resided in the "Libra" and Brigham Collections.
