1131 O/ng/og   imageValuable collection of Federal Revenues, 1864-1967, consisting of many hundreds of stamps in black mounts in a van Dam album, all identified by the owner and spot-checked for accuracy, which was very good. Starts with the First Bill Issue FB1/17 (van Dam c.v. $565, missing the $1, offered elsewhere in this sale), the Second Bill Issue FB18-32 (c.v. $347) and the Third Bill Issue (FB37-54, c.v. $151). Gas Inspection is well represented noting FG27,-29 (c.v. $156) and then into Light and Gas & Light inspection, noting FE1-7 (c.v. $360), and FE8-17 (c.v. $260). Weights & Measures features, among many others, FWM22-33 (c.v. $304) , then into several Supreme Court stamps, impressive in colour and size. Excise Tax is plentiful here, noting especially the 1915-23 George V issue FX1-20 (c.v. $1,130) and the overprinted set of Three-Leaf Issue FX103-126 (c.v. $648) along with the red overprinted 8c on 6c blue FX40 (c.v. $250 itself). All three of the Postal Note and Postal Scrip issues are present, the highlight being the Third Issue (smaller design, FPS42-58, c.v. $503) followed by numerous Unemployment Stamps, mostly cancelled Specimens. Very high catalogue value in this clean, well-organized collection, which is ready for continuation by the next owner. Watch also for the opportunities in this sale to secure many scarce and rare stamps to add to this collection. Overall fine-very fine. See our Image Gallery.

1138 O/og/nh OL1-90 imageExhibit of Ontario Law Stamps and documents, 1864-1940, being offered intact, on 8 large poster boards, with 11 pages of stamps and 50 documents, beginning with imperforate Proofs of the 1864 issue without overprints (c.v. $150), followed by Fee Fund proofs (c.v. $400). Then, the exhibit moves to the CF overprinted Consolidated Fund stamps OL1-15 (c.v. $1,065), followed by the Fee Fund overprints (OL16-30, c.v. $1,625 – the $3 is $325 itself) and then the carmine LS (Law Society) overprints (OL31-45, c.v. $1,550). The 1870-1911 issue follows (“the red Law Stamps”, OL46-60, c.v. $455, with an OL52a variety of the 50c imperforate vertical between) followed by the 1908 issue (OL61-65, c.v. $145). The stamp section of the exhibit continues with the last regular issue of the Ontario Law stamps (OL66-90, c.v. $1,335) and ends with overprints on the red issue used for Gasoline Tax (OGT1-9, c.v. $420) and Luxury Tax (OLT7, c.v. $75). The 50 documents include several rare examples of Law Stamp usages, including an 1861 Common Pleas document with a CF overprinted 30c, an 1864 early usage of the $2 CF overprint and a Call to the Bar with 50c LS and 50c CF overprints. We noted several others including an 1877 Eviction Notice with a $1 OL57, an 1893 Writ of Summons with a 70c and 9 other of the red issue, and a 1930 Surrogate Court of York document with a rare usage of the $5 blue on orange stamp (OL90, c.v. $300 used). van Dam c.v. of stamps alone is $7,816 not counting NH premiums and the documents took decades to assemble. A tremendous opportunity for someone to continue this exhibit and bring it to new show attendees. Overall fine-very fine. Ex Dr. John Stoffman. 1139 O/og/nh   imageGroup of Ontario and Québec Revenue stamps, 1864-1970, consisting of hundreds of stamps in a stock book, organized by province and type. The Québec issues include Federal Law stamps overprinted L.C. (1864 issue) and Québec Law stamps proper from 1893 to the 1970 issue. We note many values of the 1923 "Honoraires/Fees" overprinted issues and QL115 (used, c.v. $125). Registration stamps are well represented from the 1870 Beavers to 1962 Coat of Arms issues. License stamps follow, then Transfers (including a proof of the $10 purple single on card, c.v. $100), Unemployment and Prohibition (notorious for their poor condition, the 10c stamp has only one rip and is otherwise fresh and fine-very fine). Ontario starts with Law stamps overprinted CF, FF and LF on the federal issues before moving into the 1908, 1926 and 1929 provincial issues, noting the $3 to $50 stamps mint, including OL80 ($3 blue on blue, c.v. $150). The stock book finishes with Stock Transfer (OV1-15, some NH) and Vacation Pay stamps OV1-8) and a nice group of OST1, 9, 10, 12 and 14 in lower margin imprint blocks of four. The lot is rounded out by two Québec Revenue documents with License stamps. All pages and both document shown in the online photos. Overall fine or better.
