1931, Maritime & Newfoundland Airways collection, neatly written-up for exhibition, with thirteen singles and three pairs, illustrating the range of printings including perforated examples in green and light green; pale red, dark red, brown red, and black on yellow paper, other imperforate examples, black and silver "Official" issues including one showing the "OFFICAL" error, etc., an interesting study of these labels, prepared for use on a proposed route between St. John's, Newfoundland, St. Pierre and Miquelon, and Nova Scotia, which never received approval, overall fresh and fine-very fine. Collection of mostly Newfoundland mint stamps, 1860-1947, virtually complete for regular issues, some never hinged, all in clear mounts on Harris pages in a binder, beginning with an original gum Sc. #1, progressing into the 1860 issues with 11, 11A and 12A, then 1861 issues from 15A to 23 (a few of which may be spurious), the Cents (1864-1896) are a mix of mint and used, with the majority mint from the 1897 Cabot issue onwards, a brief selection of highlights include Sc. #75 (Type A) and 76 (Type B) 2c overprinted provisional, a nearly complete set of the Guy issue, Trail of the Caribou full basic set, followed by all four of the 1920 Provisional Overprints, including the narrow-spaced bars on the 15c Seals, quite complete from there through Confederation, the Airmails are represented by C2 and C3, the Alcock & Brown and Halifax flights, plus C6-11, plus the Labrador issue and the Dornier Do-X overprinted issue of 1932. BNA is represented by British Columbia #8, New Brunswick #1 (three margins, used) plus 6-11, and Nova Scotia 2, 3 and 4 (these mixed condition, few margins) plus 8-13. P.E.I. has #1 (faulty) and 4-16. The collection is rounded out by a group of Semi-Official Airmail stamps along with a clever assortment of Canadian issues topically related to the BNA issues, sure to fill gaps in an existing collection or useful dealer stock, overall fine or better. Valuable collection of mint Newfoundland stamps, 1857-1947, with some never hinged, all in black mounts on Minkus album pages, beginning with a 1c brown violet Sc. #1, then into the 1860-63 Pence issues from the 1c to the 1sh (missing only 4 stamps - 2d red orange, and the orange vermilion stamps 4d, 6d, and 1sh), the First Cents issue incomplete, though the stamps present are quite nice, noting a near-complete rouletted set, virtually complete from the 1897 Discovery of Newfoundland issue through the Air Mail stamps (with a few exceptions including the Dornier Do-X overprint) including the first two issues, C2 (Air Post) and C3 (Halifax) both with additional varieties, the Labrador Air Post set and a Balbo Flight stamp (c.v. $375), catalogued without never hinged premiums, overall fresh and fine-very fine, an impressive collection, worthy of inspection; all pages have been photographed online.
