610 CVR   image1902 (February 4), Boer War, Western Province Mounted Rifles, Active Service cover from Sgt. Edward Edward Fenerty, postmarked Calvinia, with letter datelined Calvinia C.C., Jan 26th, to the sender's mother in St. John, New Brunswick, with c.d.s. arrival backstamp (17 Mar), opening on three sides for display, a scarce example from the WPMR to Canada. Fenerty shares detailed information of the soldier's travails, noting "I don't know when it will get to you, as we are cut off here from the outside world, and don't know when we will be relieved, but it will have to be soon, as the grub is getting very short. It is rather monotonous being shut up here, day after day, expect to be attacked any time by our friends the rebels...We expected to go down country, but no relief was sent up for us, so we have had to stop here ever since..[on Christmas] we had to be alert all day as the Boers seemed inclined to keep us busy..." 612 CVR   image1918 (August 13), Young Soldiers' Battalion YMCA cover, endorsed Canadian Soldier's Letter, postmarked Bramshott Camp, struck with violet oval YOUNG SOLDIERS BATTALTION / CANADIANS / ORDERLY ROOM, to Calgary, some edge creasing, reduced at left, yet a scarce regimental marking. The Young Soldiers Battalion protected boys who had enlisted before the proper age, and made their way to England or France, either returning them home or providing them with training until they were of age to fight. 616 CVR   image1943 (January 8), Y-Force Jamaica, private soldier's handstamp, cover franked with 6d KGVI Pictorial, tied by Kingston machine cancel, to Hamilton, Y Force No. 2 censor handstamp, backstamped with private sender's handstamp "Hon. Major P.J. Dykes / Serial 300 / 'Y" Force / Canadian Army Overseas", the name crossed-out and "Lieutenant Jc.R. Harstone" written overtop, perhaps the only re-named example extant, vertical filing fold, a scarce and unusual soldier's handstamp, and a rare example from the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders posted in 1943, noted by Ed Richardson in BNA Topics Vol 41, No 5.

617 CVR   image1943 (July 27), returned to sender soldier's cover, CP Railways cover franked with 3c War Issue, to Major Hugh Allan MacLean, 6th Field Parks Squadron, postmarked Vancouver, handstamped Return to Sender and endorsed DECEASED, Postal Corps /Directory Service, FPO and Ottawa MPO backstamps; Major MacLean served with the Royal Canadian Engineers, and died 1 September, 1943.
