573 CVR   image1909 (22 October), O.H.M.S. cover from Harbour Grace to Riverhead, with mining lease document, for a one-year period, for "the whole of the Island known as Makkovic Island, Labrador," with a hand drawn and coloured map of the leased area. The document is franked with $1 green Edward VII (NFR12) revenue stamp and cancelled with a nicely-struck "Department of / Agriculture & Mines / OCT 22 1909" marking. A beautiful mining document suitable for exhibition. Fine to very fine.

580   image1926 (12 August), letter from Anglo-Newfoundland Development Co. Ltd., to its solicitors regarding mineral rights at Buchans River. The site turned out to be one of the largest copper, zinc and lead mines in Newfoundland, operated from 1928-84. Written by G.F. Laycock, the Vice President of Anglo-Newfoundland Development, to W.G. Wood, the company's solicitor. An important document to understand the process of securing the mining rights. Condition is very fine, and the document is accompanied by a typed transcript and related information.
