1364 CVR   imageWorld War II Mail Bag Disaster Cover, with original St Johns Ambulance Brigade 2 page letter still inside, mailed on SEP.25.1941 from Ottawa to Calgary. Accompanied by an explanatory letter from the Postal Service saying that when the letter left North Bay by plane, one of the compartment doors opened and the bag "rolled out" in the vicinity of Cobalt. An intensive search ensued involving 100 men and it was finally found after three days "in a small lake". The back of the cover is postmarked with a purple ink North Bay Postal Service datestamp on OCT.1 and accompanied by a copy of a newspaper report on this search and rescue mission. 1365 CVR   image1945 S.S. Greenhill Park Explosion Cover, being a Salvation Army stationery cover mailed with a blackout machine cancel dated FEB.15.1945 to Islington Newcastle Australia (stamp fallen off). There is a black handstamp on front and back reading "SALVADGED FROM / SHIP FIRE / VANCOUVER BC". Accompanied by an extensive article by Unwin and Scrimgeour published in BNA Topics in 2000 explaining this event and its resulting postal history, and listing the 15 known covers (the owner has added two more, including this one). 1372   imageFull Colour Boer War Military Calendar, for the year 1900, this original chromolithograph calendar is from the T.S. Annandale Grocery Store in New Westminster, British Columbia. Printed by the R.J. Lovell Co. Toronto, it measures 17½ x 22¼ inches, with gilded metal hanging rims at top and bottom. An important and lavishly illustrated Boer War item, with wonderfully rich and vivid colours, with only two light horizontal creases and discoloration at Queen Victoria's neck, still probably unique and quite stunning. 1373   imageHistorical Items from WWII Newfoundland Military Soldier belonging to Kenneth Charles Davis of Safe Harbour Newfoundland. Born Aug 13, 1923 Regimental No. B-657 Mr. Davis was a member of the Canadian Merchant Marine until April 1945 when he joined the Canadian Army. This lot includes his Canadian Army's soldier's Service and Pay book. a very rare Newfoundland National Registration identity card (sailor's passport #1386), Canadian Army discharge document, document giving him the right to wear War Service badge, certificate to wear Canadian Army uniform 30 days after discharge, United States Coast Guard id card, five S.S. Fort Amherst mercantile marine certificates of discharge, two official 1944 Newfoundland Department of Home Affairs identification papers, a matted photo of the Ypres War Memorial in Belgium for the 2013 Newfoundlander's pilgrimage, and many other items including decoration, ornament, IDs, his Royal Canadian Legion Baseball cap (new), etc. A rarely offered group of 27 items. 1376   imageLake of the Woods Honour Roll Poster, measuring 18 x 23 inches, this poster lists the officers and employees of the Lake of the Woods Milling Company who enlisted in World War I (with many names being annotated by a symbol indicating medals won or whether deceased, etc.). Printed by The Montreal Standard Publishing Co. Ltd. This company was started on May 21, 1887 to take advantage of the new railway and western grain production. Formed by a team from the board of the Canadian Pacific Railway, with headquarters in Montreal and milling operation in Keewatin, Ontario. This location provided transportation via the CPR, access to raw product and water power from the Winnipeg River. The back of the poster depicts seven advertisements from furriers and hatters, coal companies, barristers and solicitors, electric heaters, as well as a Roll of Honour for the Nicholas Chemical Company. Overall good condition, has never been folded but there is a corner crease at top and a few small tape repairs in margins. Offered in a rigid PVC protective sleeve. (Scan a) Est $ 100
