2266   image…L…MENS DE LA TAXE Label on 1830 Cover from England to Switzerland, folded letter from The Royal Hospital at Chelsea and addressed to a pensioned soldire in Bern Switzerland, cover with red "FREE/ 8 NO 8 1830" crowned circle postmark, various rating markings with label attached since French system did not recognize the English "free frank" and the cover was levied charges of "1fr50c" reimbursement to the office at Bern and "20c" for French rate from border office to destination, label with boxed "Suisse Par Delle" handstamp, a bit of expected postal wear, a Fine and rare showpiece; these labels were created to deal with public concerns about proper calculation of charges by postmen; first issued by France, they were soon emulated in other countries.

2267   imageStampless Covers to Luxembourg, 1796/1813, sixteen covers neatly arranged and described on exhibit pages, all of an official nature from various agencies based in Paris and on folded official letterhead addressed to the Administrators of Luxembourg, senders incl Ministers of Finances (6), Interior (5 incl one signed by Louis Bonaparte), Police (1), Chief of War (1), Chief of Police of the Empire (2) plus one other, variety of rare cancels and markings from various state departments incl "M.tre des finances" straightline,  "M.tre de l'interieur" straightline, "M.tre delapolice g.le" straightline in red, two-line "AFFRANCHI/ PAR ETAT" in red, two-line "Conseiller d'etat/ Ponts at Chaussées", two-line "Conseiller d'etat/ Police glle 2ne ar" in red, two-line "Le Conseiller d'Etat/ Comte de l'Empire" in red, etc., generally fresh and Very Fine; fascinating group beginning in the latter stages of the French Revolution and using Gregorian dates .
