Entire letter sent on 25/JUN/1879 (ONLY 8 DAYS AFTER PERU´S ACCESSION TO THE UPU) from Callao to France franked with the new international rate of 27c., with transit through Calais on 28/JUL, and on back Bordeaux arrival mark of the
following day. Excellent quality, ex-Herbert Moll. The new postal rate for letters to Europe was 11c. (of which 1c. paid the transit across the Isthmus of Panama). This amount was expressed in Moneda de Plata, for which no stamps yet existed, and the
equivalent in Papel Moneda was 27c. or 30c., coinciding with the outbreak of the war with Chile in 1879. In 1880 the stamps were overprinted "Unión Postal Universal Plata Perú". (Image) (Image-02)
