(JA 24) cover to a senior Catholic churchman in Montevideo, Uruguay, franked with 1885-87 1d brownish claret horizontal pair and diagonal bisect, tied by fine strikes of ‘First Bisect’ cork cancel with type F2 despatch cds at right. Fancy ‘LISTAS’
arrival backstamp of ‘29 ENERO 91’ on reverse. Minor gum stains and yellowing, not detracting from this exceptional and desirable cover from the first mail on which bisect provisionals were used. A15 in Barton's 2002 listing and the only known bisect
