681 CVR 8, 9 imageTwo 1866 Covers with Scarce "Way Letter" Handstamps, both well written-up on a page, first is addressed to St. John and was handed to a courier with a 5c stamp, who brought it to the St. John post office, where it received the Way Letter circular handstamp on JUL.3.1866 (backstamp). The second was also handed to a courier, along with a 10c stamp (as it is addressed to Philadelphia) who signed it at the top and brought it to the St. John post office where it received its Way Office circular handstamp on JUN.26.1866 (backstamp). Once in Philadelphia it received a boxed "ADV / JUL 6 / 1866" and a "NOT FOUND" handstamps. Small faults on both covers do not detract from their rarity.

This contained an insurance policy, making the weight require a 10c vermilion Queen Victoria stamp (tied by oval grid) to pay double the weight. Overall fine. 684 CVR 41, 53 image1883 St. John's to Grand River Bookpost Rate, a large piece of lined paper which had been adhered to a package, mailed St. John's on JAN.13.1883 (broken circle free strike, date unclear but "helped" by docketing) addressed to the Reverend Father Steinlein / R.C. Missionary / Grand River / near Cod Roy (at the most furthest east point of the island). The piece is franked with a vertical strip of three of the first 5c pale blue Harp Seal and a 1c violet brown Edward Prince of Wales issue, paying 16c (4x 4c per ¼ lb) book post rate. Franked with a 1c deep green Prince of Wales, 2c yellow green Codfish and 5c dark blue Harp Seal paying an 8c (double) rate. The rate was 4c for 2 to 4 oz, then 4c per additional 4 oz. 688 CVR 48, 78 image1900 20c Triple Weight Registered Cover to Germany, mailed from St. John's on MAR.26.1900 (several oval registration datestamps) to Kenzingen, Germany (APR.15 receiver on back) via Liverpool (APR.14 oval registration transit) and London (APR.14 registration transit in red). The cover is franked with an impressive 20 copies of the ½c olive green King Edward VII as a Child issues plus 5 copies of the 2c orange Codfish, two of which have part of a plate imprint, all totaling 20c. One of the Codfish stamps has a small fault and the cover has a small tear at left plus two tape marks, still an impressive franking / rate cover.

Attorney General's Office cover mailed from St John's on OCT.1 1894 (c.d.s. free strike) to Brooklyn NY (OCT.8 receiver), franked with a 5c dark blue Harp Seal (tied by a circular grid cancel). The cover was deemed too heavy and received a circled "T" handstamp a "Collect Postage 10 Cents" handstamp, a "2/25" marking in blue crayon and finally a 10c deep claret United States Postage Due stamp (Scott J35) tied by a segmented cork.
