355 CVR   image1853 Folded Letter to India, the letter inside was written on NOV.17.1853 and addressed to the "Royal Civil Service / North West Provinces / East India" and endorsed "Via Southampton & Bombay". Back has a boxed Bombay datestamp (date unreadable) as well as 4 different town cancels (from somewhere in the United Kingdom, likely Scotland which is what the owner specialized in). The letter is franked with two 1sh green Queen Victoria embossed (cut to shape) with grid numeral postmarks (number unreadable). Edge faults, else a scarce franking / destination. 360 CVR 29/48 image1866 Mixed Franking on Folded Letter to Italy, the long letter inside is datelined London, and there is a London JUN.9.1866 c.d.s. in blue on the back, next to a Rome receiver. The franking consists of four different Queen Victoria issues (with Scott numbers and values for used off cover): 2d blue (#29, U$17), 4d vermilion (#43a plate 7, U$100), 6d lilac (#45, plate 5, U$160) and 1sh green (#48, U$325) for a total of 2sh. A very fine and interesting letter.
