287 CVR   image1862 Harbor Grace Folded Letter to Nova Scotia, the letter inside is datelined Harbor Grace 11th August 1862, mailed from there on the same day (double arc datestamp on front) to Bridgewater (Nova Scotia, AUG.20 receiver) via St John’s (AUG.12 transit) and Halifax (AUG.16 transit). Rated 4d Sterling (handstamp in black) alongside a scarce “CTS / 10” handstamp applied in Nova Scotia, plus “C. 14” (cents) manuscript rate to the interior of Nova Scotia. Effective MAY.1.1862, the rate from Newfoundland to Halifax was 10c and to the interior of NS another 13½c, quite often rounded off to 14c. A very fine and scarce cover for the rate specialist. Krippner Hand Illustrated "Registered” Cover to England, mailed without registration (scarce thus) from St. John’s on DEC.9.1899 (c.d.s. free strike) to Manchester England (DEC.18.1899 receiver). A nicely illustrated “Flag and Frame” cover franked with 5 different Royal Family issues, each tied by a light grid cancel. Opening tears at top and a few corner wrinkles do not detract from the colourful nature of this scarce cover. Ex Motson.
