1082 CVR   imageGroup of 6 Trans-Atlantic Folded Letters Incoming to Canada, 1820-1863, 1820 Liverpool to Montréal via Boston with "SHIP" handstamp, 1839 Scotland to Montréal with "NEW YORK SHIP" handstamp "via Bristol + NYork per Steamer Great Western", 1847 Torquay (?) to Toronto "by first Halifax Mail", 1855 Birmingham to Toronto "per Pacific" (Crimean war rated), 1856 Windsor to Toronto and 1863 Liverpool to Montréal "via St Shp per Derry "Hibernian" with Canadian "25" handstamp. Also includes an 1842 folded letter mailed from New York to Scotland with "LIVERPOOL SHIP" handstamp. A nice group, with rate and other markings, overall fine or better. 1083 CVR   image1827 Folded Letter Montréal to France, the long 3 page letter (in French) inside is datelined Montréal JUN.22.1827, addressed to Belley, France, with "COLONIES / PAR LE HAVRE" two-line entry handstamp in red. Owner wrote "charged for manuscript "8" (grams) weight and rated "15" (1 décime ship letter fee and 14 décimes inland for 600 kilometers - the sea and British transit portion was 10 décimes and 7½ gm French letter for this distance was 5 décimes- a scarce rate". Very fine.

1084 CVR   image1829 Québec Folded Letter to United Kingdom, datelined inside "Québec, 17 January 1829" with faint Québec Fleuron handstamp on back, plus two "Québec / Paid" handstamps on front (one with "1/2" manuscript rate inside and the other with "Pd to New York" manuscript), addressed to London UK, with boxed "SHIP LETTER / LIVERPOOL" on back next to a FEB.27.1829 London receiver in red. 1085 CVR   imageFour Stampless Folded Letters 1836-1840 Toronto to England, all four addressed to the same person in London, the 1836 letter has a faint double circle City of Toronto despatch, plus a scarce "PAID 9 & 25" and a boxed "PORTSMOUTH / SHIP LETTER" handstamp in black, endorsed "via N York", with a red DEC.14.1836 London receiver. The 1837 letter has a very fine strike of the City of Toronto double circle in red on back (NOV.2.1837), plus a scarce "PAID 7&25" handstamp in red on front, next to a boxed "PORTSMOUTH / SHIP LETTER" handstamp in black, endorsed "via New York", with a red DEC.1.1837 London receiver. Both 1840 letters have the same despatch but on front and in black, with a handstamp "PAID" plus manuscript "7 + 25", one has a scarce "BRISTOL / SHIP LETTER" and the other a "LIVERPOOL / SHIP LETTER" and both have a red London receiver. 1086 CVR   image1837 Trans-Atlantic Folded Cover, Toronto to England, mailed JUL.17.1837 (CITY OF TORONTO U.C. large double circle in red) to the Canada Company, Canada House, London, England, with AUG.17 Cork transit and two London receivers in red, (AUG.18 and AUG.20), endorsed "via New York" with rare "PAID 7 & 25" North American postage rate handstamp in red (the few that are known are in black), next to a boxed "CORK Ship Letter" handstamp in black, plus a few manuscript rate markings. 1090 CVR   image1844 Cross-Border Folded Letter Mailed by Steamer Boat, from London C.W (dateline inside dated AUG.8.1844) to Buffalo, NY, endorsed "Per Steam Boat "Kent" Pt Stanley". The folded letter was carried by favour the entire way, and there is an AUG.12 receiver docket on back. Very fine, ex Bruce Graham and one of the highlights of his Canadian Steamer collection. Accompanied by his write-up reading in part "Her [Kent} route for 1844 season was between Buffalo and Detroit, touching at Port Stanley and all the Canadian ports instead of the American ports as was the usual case. The Kent was built in Chatham CW.... she was wrecked in a collision with her sister steamboat the London below Point Pelee on August 12th 1845 with a loss of nine lives." 1092 CVR   imageTwo Trans-Atlantic Covers Mailed from Hamilton, Ontario to the United Kingdom, first mailed OCT.19.1855 to England, rated "1/2" and "PAID" handstamp (Crimean War rate), with "Paid Per Pacific from New York" endorsement, "CONVEYED BY / UNITED STATES / PACKET" handstamp, with a red Liverpool tombstone arrival (missing part of backflap and tear at left). Also a cover mailed MAR.2.1857 to Scotland, rated "PAID 6d 8 Stg" handstamp in red, endorsed "Per steamer Indian from Portland" with "BY CANADIAN / PACKET" handstamp in red (scarce) and Liverpool tombstone arrival and MAR.17 receiver on back (very fine). An interesting pair of covers.

1098 CVR   image1896 Richelieu and Ontario Navigation Co Steamship Carolina Cover, franked with a 3c Small Queen, tied by "Richelieu & Ontario Nav. Co AUG.29.1898 Steamer Carolina" postmark in blue-green, addressed to Brantford Ontario. The long letter inside is datelined Tadoussac. An issue of the BNAPS "Nautical Times" newsletter notes that this marking has not been reported on cover. Missing backflap, still a rare steamer postmark.

1099 PC   image1897 1c Jubilee Card with Alexandria Handstamp, mailed to Trenton (OCT.11.1897 squared circle was applied upon arrival), likely mailed on board, with an OCT.11.1897 STEAMER / ALEXANDRIA handstamp on message side in blue. Ex Bruce Graham and accompanied by his write-up, which states in part "it was delivered to the steamship Alexandria while she was in the Picton harbour. The ship's marking... applied on board the steamer and the post carried to destination....". Bay of Quinte steamer markings are quite rare. Light creases do not detract from this great item.
