867 O   imageCollection of Perforated and Imperforate Queen Victoria Chalon Issues with Interesting Postmarks, with a total of 31 stamps (including 9 that have various perforations) chosen by the collector for their unusual postmarks. We note three with circular town cancels ("Hobart Town Paid" plus two "Hobartown"), 11 mostly different stamps with un-numbered oval barred cancels, two perforated stamps with "LATE LETTER" handstamps, a barred #311, strip of three and three singles with what appears to be #1 in bars from Melbourne N.S.W., three stamps with a simple #4 (two handstamps and a manuscript), a manuscript from Torquay, and a few more. Unchecked by us for better shades, watermarks or perforations, so there could be some valuable finds, not to mention some rarer postmarks.

868   imageGroup of Four Early Tasmania Items, with an 1889 2d dull emerald green reprint block of four on thin card, a 6d grey lilac 1889 reprint on thin card, a Scott #16 (unused no gum 1sh vermilion imperforate, with crease, c.v. $825), and a 1sh vermilion 1889 reprint on thin perforated card (overprinted REPRINT). Overall fine to very fine.

869 O 1 image1853 1p Blue Queen Victoria Imperforate, used with manuscript "13" (presumably from Bothwell), with what appears to be a fine impression first printing, margins are close to cut into and there is a thin, still a scarce stamp missing from many collections.

870 O 2, 2a, 2b image1853 4d Orange and Yellow Orange Queen Victoria Octagonal, a group of 20 cut to shape Octagonal stamps collected for their postmarks. Two are manuscript dated in September 1855 (one of those also has a town name handstamp). The other 18 stamps all have grid numeral cancels, with what we think are #s 11, 18, 19, 20, 27, 31, 42, 43, 45, 52, 61, 63 and 64. Also #61 tying a stamp to a piece with an indistinct PAID... handstamp, and a piece containing 4 stamps, each cancelled with #44. Faults here and there, still overall fine. Scott catalogue value for 20 cut to shape stamps is $500 alone, not counting a premium for the choice cancels.

871 O 2a, 2b image1853 4d Orange and Yellow Orange Queen Victoria Octagonal, a group of 7 square stamps collected for their numeral cancels, with manuscript #s 55, 56 (x2, with manuscript grills) and grid #s 59, 64, 68, plus British style (Campbell type 2b) #60. A few have faults and several have at least one margin cut into, still an attractive and scarce group.

872 O 14, 14a image1863 6c Grey Lilac Queen Victoria Imperforate, a group of 21 used stamps (plus one cut to shape blue grey shade that was not counted). We note mostly grey lilac shades but one is clearly red-violet. Most have numeral grid cancels, with a good variety of different numbers (unchecked by us). Some faults, still overall fine.

876 nh   imageRare Group of Tasmania Beer Duty Stamps, with 7 mint never hinged stamps in the Bradbury Wilkinson design, two are from the 1881 printing (13/6 and 3/9 rates), two are surcharged due to a rate change in December 1892 (1/8 on 1/3 and 9s. on 6/9). Also comes with three different lithographed negative proofs of the same design, printed from the original dies (negatives) in red on chalk-surfaced paper apparently by the Tasmanian Government Printing Office between 1930 and 1960. A very fine, and rarely offered group.
