CVR 89, 90, 92 image1905 12c Rate Edward Cover Mailed Registered and Insured, an uprated 2c Edward stationery cover mailed registered from Big Bras d'Or, NS (JUL.24.1905 broken circle on back) to Hamilton (JUL.29 receiver) through North Sydney (JUL.24), Halifax & Sydney R.P.O. (W / JUL.24), Boularderie Centre (JUL.26), Montréal (JUL.26) and Toronto (JUL.27) with an "Insured" label (tied by two handstamps). The total franking is 12c, which paid for 2c postage, 5c registration and 5c for coverage of up to $20 (based on rate table, as there is no notation for value insured. Couple of light wrinkles and one stamp is damaged, still very fine and rare (only 23 registered insured covers are recorded), ex Brigham (with his handstamp on back).

CVR 89, 93 image1910 13c Rate Edward Cover Mailed Registered and Insured, an uprated 1c Edward stationery cover mailed registered from Renfrew, Ontario (MAY.30.1910 oval datestamps in magenta) to Kindersley, Saskatchewan (with MAY.31 and JUN.1 R.P.O. transits on back) and an "Insured" label (tied by return address). The total franking (including the 1c stationery and a 10c Edward) is 13c, which paid for 2c postage, 5c registration and 6c for coverage of up to $25. What is interesting about this cover is that it is technically overpaid by 6c, as the insurance coverage had ended April 7, 1909, and it is assumed the sender (and postal clerk?) was not aware of this. Very fine, ex Horace Harrison and still on his exhibit page (Lee sale 108, lot 624). (Scan 1) (Scan 2) (All Scans)

CVR 90 image1904 10c Rate Edward Cover Mailed Registered and Insured, mailed registered from Cape Sable Island South Side, Nova Scotia (MAR.30.1904) to Yarmouth (APR.1 receiver), franked with 5x 2c carmine King Edward VII stamps, with an "Insured" label, tied by the despatch postmark. There is a note reading "Insured for Ten Dollars $10.00". The rate paid was 2c for postage, 5c for registration and 3c for coverage of $10. Upper right corner was torn off and skillfully repaired, then adding the missing stamp, making this a very fine appearing cover. A rare insured cover, with only 23 recorded, and this one mailed only two days after the March 28, 1904 date when insured mail service was inaugurated. Ex Horace Harrison and still on his exhibit page (Lee sale 108, lot 613) (Scan 1) (Scan 2) (All Scans)

CVR 92 image1905 7c Underpaid Rate Edward Cover Mailed Registered and Insured, mailed registered from Waupoos East, Ontario (NOV.22.1905 broken circle is the new earliest recorded by 2 years) to Toronto (NOV.22 receiver) via Picton (same day transit) with "Insured" label and notation reading "Insured for Ten (crossed out) Dollars $10.00". The franking consists of a single 7c olive bister King Edward VII, which only paid the 2c postage and 5c registration. As evidenced with the "6 cents collect" marking in blue crayon (postage stamps had not yet been issued) the unpaid fee had to be paid by the recipient. Very fine and extremely rare, ex Horace Harrison and still on his exhibit page (Lee sale 108, lot 620). Also illustrated in Canada's Registered Mail 1802-1909 (Harrison, p. 366) (Scan 1) (Scan 2) (All Scans)

Franked with a 7c Edward and two 2c Numerals making 11c, which paid for 2c postage, 5c registration and 4c for coverage of up to $15. Post offices not supplied with insured labels were instructed to underline the notation in red pencil, as was correctly done on this cover. Very fine and extremely rare, ex Horace Harrison and still on his exhibit page (Lee sale 108, lot 619). 640 CVR   imageCollection of 262 First Day Covers from the Middlesex Stamp Club (London, Ontario), 1955-1971, all housed chronologically in two Lighthouse deluxe cover albums with slip cases. A lovely and clean collection, with what appears to be all different items, sometimes shown with a single, then a block, or different colour cachets, or postmarks, some have inserts explaining the stamp used, etc. Rarely offered, and would be impossible to duplicate. Accompanied by an in-depth article on the stamp club, but mostly on the first day covers, how they were made, by whom, the cachet types, etc., as well as a list of the stamps that were issued in that period, and what covers have been seen.
