295 O 26 image2-Ring #5 (Hamilton) Cancel in Blue on 5c Large Queen, a lovely strike of this Hamilton 2-ring numeral, reported to be the only known example in blue by Jim Hennok, very fine and the key item to any serious 2-ring numeral collection. Ex Hennok (2005), Eastern Auctions (November 2022, lot 848, where it sold for $2,370). The 5c Large Queen was officially issued on Oct.1, 1875 and the 2-ring #5 is recorded used in Hamilton from APR.5.1869 to OCT.10.1871, making this a late usage. It is well documented that the Hamilton Post Office had a habit of using old instruments in a later period. One of the best known examples is their "1829" type, which was originally used from 1830 to 1839 was also used between 1894 to 1904. Another example is the circular grid 16 obliterator which was used from 1858 to 1863, but also recorded on a 1c Large Queen.
